Crispy Sesame Tofu

  • 3 T  olive oil
  • 3 T  tamari soy sauce
  • 3 T  ginger, grated
  • 8   cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ t  crushed red pepper
  • 1 pound  tofu, extra firm
  • 3 T  sesame seeds


Combine all ingredients in a bowl to make a marinade except tofu and sesame seeds and mix well.  Slice the tofu into 1/2" strips and arrange in a baking dish, then add mix. Let marinate for about an hour in the refrigerator, turning once. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.  Press sesame seeds into tofu.  Bake uncovered for 25 minutes or longer for crisper tofu, turning once.

Serving ideas:

This is wonderful served on a spinach salad.  Dress the spinach with the miso dressing and toss with thin slices of red onion, mushrooms, and sunflower sprouts.  Top with the warm tofu and serve.

This is also a wonderful filling in pita bread or wrapped in a tortilla with lettuce, avocado and sliced tomatoes.
